Updates and notices regarding the Unclaimed Property program. Learn more.

Legislation

New Brunswick’s Unclaimed Property Act requires businesses and other entities with unclaimed property (holders) to make a reasonable effort to locate and notify the owners of these unclaimed funds. If they are unsuccessful or unable to locate the owners, they must report and deliver these funds to the Unclaimed Property Program. The program maintains and publishes an online database of unclaimed property, which allows owners to search for and claim their unclaimed property.  There is no charge to search or claim unclaimed property.

The Act

The Unclaimed Property Act outlines the authority of the Director, the duties of holders to report unclaimed property, and how the Director will assess claims.

The Rules

These rules provide more specifics, like when different types of property become unclaimed, when holders need to report, and what fees the Director can impose for late reports.
